Sit down with Yessica Zapata to talk boxing. Give her a date, event, and a previous North Carolina fight venue, and she will quickly rattle off the attendance and who fought in the main event. She is very likely to follow with a bold statement, “But, Stop Running Promotions will be the first, and I will be the first lady in North Carolina to..” Yessica Zapata does the research, remembers the numbers, cares about the sport, her state, and her fighters, because she wants to become North Carolina’s First Lady of Boxing to make meaningful history.
Born in Honduras, Yessica Zapata came to the United States with her family. One of nine children, she grew up in Goldsboro, NC where she learned a strong sense of family and work ethic. “Having a large family helped me understand the importance of working for something within a group. If we needed something, we worked together and didn’t have to ask outsiders for help.”
Yessica combined her strong love for the sport of boxing and her unequivocal friendship with fighter Dewayne Beamon to form Stop Running Promotions. They are a family based promotional company spearheaded and driven by the success of Beamon, but committed to the long term well being of all their fighters. As Yessica would say, “Inside the ring is a dangerous place, so we have to always be thinking two steps ahead for all of our fighters.”
On May 13, 2016, at the Dorton Arena in Raleigh, NC, Stop Running Promotions, Dewayne Beamon, and Yessica Zapata will make North Carolina history as they promote and fight in the first title belt fight ever to be held in Raleigh, North Carolina.
