Blood thirsty fans were not thoroughly entertained by Andre Ward’s performance, but Ward did what he was supposed to in winning by unanimous decision over Alexander Brand.
Andre Ward needed a win to set up his super fight with Sergey Kovalev. Ward needed rounds to shake off rust, he needed to avoid injury… bottom line, Andre S.O.G. Ward needed a public sparring session that would get him in the correct frame of mind for a big fight. Alexander Brand gave Ward just what he needed.
For 12 rounds, Brand’s awkward style and veteran skills presented Andre Ward with a tough but not so spectacular challenge. Ward, as always, was poised and picked his shots. Ward sparingly fought as a southpaw, but he displayed his deft defensive skills and put on demonstration his strong and accurate jab.
Andre Ward improved to 30-0 (15 KO’s) and set up a November 19 match up with Light Heaveyweight Champ Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev 30-0-1 (26 KO’s)
